Privacy Policy
Last updated: 06 November 2025
1. Who we are
Spit Counter (“we”, “us”) is a small, independent project built to highlight public hygiene issues in a playful way. We care about keeping things simple and respectful of your privacy.
2. What we collect (in simple terms)
We try to collect as little as possible. When you use Spit Counter, we may process:
- Spit submissions: The number of spits you record and rough locations needed to draw maps and hotspots.
- Technical info: Basic details sent by your browser (IP address, device/browser type, timestamps) so the service works and is protected from abuse.
- Security checks: Cloudflare Turnstile or similar anti-bot signals to prevent spam and attacks.
- Share links/images: Non-sensitive tokens used only to generate shareable maps for you.
We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect your name, phone number, or other obvious identifiers for normal use.
3. How we use your data
- To show counters, trends, and hotspots inside the app.
- To create shareable images that you choose to share.
- To keep the service secure, stable, and free from abuse.
- To understand usage in aggregate (e.g., total spits), not to track individuals.
4. When we share data
We do not sell your data.
We may share limited information with trusted providers that help us run the app, for example:
- Hosting, security, and CDN providers (such as Cloudflare).
- Map and geolocation providers that power maps and tiles.
These providers may process technical data (like IP addresses) as part of delivering their services. We aim to work only with reputable providers.
5. Retention
- Aggregated statistics and map data may be kept to show long-term trends.
- Logs and security data are kept only as long as reasonably needed for safety, debugging, and legal requirements.
6. Your choices & rights
- You can refuse or revoke location access at any time via your browser or device settings.
- You can stop using the app at any time; we stop receiving new data from you.
- If laws where you live give you rights (like access, correction, deletion), you can email us and we will do our best to help where technically and legally possible.
7. Children
This app is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided data, please contact us so we can review and remove it where appropriate.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make important changes, we will update the date above and, where reasonable, highlight them in the app.
This page is a simplified explanation of how we handle data and is not formal legal advice. Depending on your location, additional rights or rules may apply.
